Immanuel Woden Valley Lutheran Church is a sending church of the LCA. This means we are focused on the mission of Christ to go into the world and tell people the good news.
Being a church focused on the mission of Christ may leave some people wondering how they can participate. The reading from Hebrews 13 for this Sunday gives us some ideas on how mission takes place.
Show hospitality, be generous with money, share with others, remember those who are on the edge of society, be committed to your relationships, and give thanks to God continually.
When we have people in our home who are not family, are generous with our money, share with others and are committed to our relationships, we naturally get opportunities to share Jesus with others. Why?
Because most other people are focused on self, are not committed to others, and they are worried about money. So when we do the opposite out of love for Christ, we stand out. Soon people start to ask “Why are you like this?” Its then you can share the good news about Jesus and how he has changed your life.
So let’s give it go, open up your home, share something with others, remain committed in your relating with others, and remember those on the edge of society. Give it a go and see what happens.
