Jesus tells a hard-hitting parable about an ‘unjust judge’, and a
very persistent widow needing justice. It’s certainly a story to
encourage persisting in prayer, and not giving up, for others
and for oneself. There is also gratitude that God is not an
unjust judge.
Our sermon today from Pastor Mike Fulwood speaks of a God
of both justice and mercy, and that God can be slow with
enacting justice, This is because his justice is tempered with
mercy. We can look for quick justice when we are sure we are
in the right, but God has a big picture in mind, more of a long
range view; with a vision that mercy might win the day, and
bring needed change.
That is the God we pray to, who is open to hearing all our
prayers. God much prefers us to pray than to give up, even
when we are frustrated by what seems like God’s inaction. I
find this encouraging in a time when there seems to be so
much going wrong in the world. Jesus says – keep praying.
