Our church planting project is part of the Lutheran Church of Australia's New and Renewing Churches initiative. The focus of New and Renewing Churches is on new mission initiatives (such as church planting) and on renewing existing congregations and other ministries.

God Calls, We're Sent
The Immanuel Community doesn't just exist for ourselves. We are blessed to be a blessing to others, to share Jesus’ love with them through our lives. That's why we're preparing to send a church planting team.
As God connects more deeply with us, we’re sent to connect more deeply with each other, and connect more deeply with Canberra professionals in their 20s and 30s. So many of these people don't know Jesus Christ. Through our lives we can point to him and share God’s love with those who don’t know it yet.
As we embark on this journey, we are praying that the Holy Spirit will build a new community of believers and we’re making a priority of sharing God’s promise of new life.
Why plant a church in Canberra?
We estimate that in our city of 410,000 people, about 100,000 of them are 20 to 40-year-olds who don’t know Jesus.
In Canberra it can be tough to build meaningful relationships and many people just end up focussing on work and what they can get out of life, especially in this age group where people move here for work.
We are sent to connect with them and echo Jesus’ invitation: “come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Our prayer is that we can connect deeply with these people, sharing our lives and God’s love with them and that through this the Spirit will bring them into new life.
