On Fauna Sunday, we celebrate God’s gift of the animal world. My
son Zeb reminded me that this includes birds and fish and insects
right through to sea sponges and coral. What an amazing
collection of species.
For the sermon I will be sharing some of Zeb’s pictures, especially
of birds, including two that are critically endangered. As people
called to care for the life of the created world in partnership with
God, we lament the loss of species over time, especially in recent
years, under our watch.
Jesus weeps for animals too. We pray for all efforts to bless the
animals, wild and domesticated. There is much for us humans to
learn from the animal world, about reducing anxiety, living in the
moment.
What have you learned from animals of various kinds? What can
we do individually and collectively to care more for God’s gift of
animals.
