John the Baptist is not the only one to ask this question. In one way or another, this is the question that arises for all people of faith, in this life.
Yes, Jesus is the One! And this is the Good News in which we rejoice and which we seek to share in deed and word.
At the same time, if we are to be honest and real, faith and doubt are natural ‘cousins’ on the journey of life in this world. And God knows it! That’s Good News indeed.
On the journey our circumstances change. Life has its highs and lows. There are times when God seems so near, and others when He seems so far away, so far away we may cry out with Jesus ”My God, my God why have you forsaken me?”
In today’s reading from James we are encouraged to be patient…. patient also in waiting for Jesus return. For some people their patience is tested as they wait for that final call, longing for their suffering to be ended and the New Life to be fully revealed.
Advent is the season in which we prepare, not only for the celebration of Jesus coming at Bethlehem, but also for his Second Advent.
As his loved children, we anticipate his coming with joy and wonder.
