As a child of God, you are a member of his family. Yes! You are a brother or sister of Jesus. Isn’t that amazing? The creator of the Universe is your brother. Surely this must give you an incredible sense of belonging that cannot be taken away from you. This fact must give you a lift when you are feeling down and encouragement when you are feeling inadequate. “Jesus is my Bro”. “Jesus is with me”. “Jesus will help me through this.” Whatever “this” may be.
As a child of God, you are also a child of the resurrection. Now what does that mean? Well, it gives meaning and strength to life in this age because it links you with life in the age to come. As life on this planet (this age) ends, another aspect of life begins. In this age, Jesus promises his resurrection to each of us through our baptism. This is what being a child of God is all about. It is also what being a child of the resurrection is all about. In the age to come, through the resurrection, we remain a child of God.
Knowing this about our life to come should give us comfort and peace in this age. This comfort and peace should bring us hope each day so that we get out of bed and take care of what being a child of God is all about; namely God’s family work.
