Keeping Faith
There are many promises throughout scripture where God says he will bless you and prosper you. But what happens when you wait and nothing seems to happen.
This is the way it was for Abraham. God promised him he would become a great nation and make him a blessing to the world. A number of years pass by. He travels around Canaan, there is a famine and he heads to Egypt. Then he rescues his nephew Lot by going all the way up to Damascus and back. Meanwhile he is getting wealthy. But there is no sign of progress on becoming a great nation. No sons, no children. And that is essential to the promise isn’t it? Abraham waits, but nothing shows.
So in Genesis 15 God shows him his promise again. See the stars, says the Lord, that is how many your descendants will be. Look up see the promise in lights. Abraham is again left to trust that God will come through. Now we know God did, but it sure took a long time.
That is the way it happens with us too. We have the promises of God, we wait, we trust, but we don’t see a lot happening.
Keeping faith, being trustful is not easy. But eventually God will fulfil what he promises.
