Muhammad in his last sermon on Mt Arafat, forbade his followers to shed the blood of each other. Of his enemies he said, “I descended by Allah with the sword in my hand and my wealth will come from the shadow of my sword. And the one who will disagree with me will be humiliated and persecuted.” (Ibn Hisham, The Life of Muhammad, pt. 6, vol 3, p 8)
Jesus words in the Sermon on the Mount declare that we should love our enemies and pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 5:44)
On Mount Carmel, before he died Moses uttered, “I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess. (Deuteronomy 30: 15-16)
Last words are worth thinking about. So I want to make my last words to you the words of St Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.”
