If someone came to you and asked; teach me how to pray. What would you answer?
Maybe you would say something like, “Just start speaking to God; tell him what’s on your mind; ask him for what you need; tell him about what is happening in your life.”
On one occasion, Jesus disciples came to him and asked him to teach them how to pray like John taught his disciples. And he told them what we today is called the Lord’s Prayer. It’s certainly different than I expected.
The Lord’s Prayer takes us to what is important. It shows us what’s on Jesus mind. Praying the Lord’s Prayer is a way of keeping on track with God, thinking his thoughts and focusing where he is focused.
At a quick glance it shows that God’s kingdom and ways is paramount. Getting focused on God’s Kingdom and its culture is where our attention is to be. The physical things we need in life, take a back seat. What we need there, are really quite meagre, in comparison.
The Lord’s Prayer is a prayer we could try to use every day!
