How we can serve
If you are able to serve in one of these roles, please indicate it by going to this webpage or contacting the office. Support and training for all of these roles will be available for those who need it. Please be aware that some of these needs and roles have changed due to COVID – we’ll talk you through any changes.
Welcoming / Ushering
We are looking for at least six pairs of people to be part of a roster for each of the 9am and 10.30am service times. This is a great role to do as a couple/family, or with a friend.
You will be warmly welcoming people as they arrive at our worship times. You’ll need to check people off against the attendance registration or ask for their contact details, ask them to sanitise their hands, and help them find appropriately distanced seats. After the service you will provide equipment for attendees to clean where they have been sitting, and ensure the offering is counted. This role does not involve preparing and cleaning up communion, but you will need to be arriving early.
Technology
We are looking for at least six people in the 9am service and four people in the 10.30am service to be part of a roster (in addition to those who have already been doing tech for the livestream).
You will be running the projection or the sound desk for the service. The software we are using for both of these activities has changed to accommodate livestreaming – you will be trained in using this new equipment by someone who has been doing it for the livestream. If you know how to use a computer, you’ll be able to serve in this way!
Leading Prayers
We are looking for at least six people to be part of a roster for both the 9am and 10.30am service times.
You will be preparing and leading the prayers of the church for our gatherings, based on the prayer points in the eNews each week. You’ll need to be comfortable getting up in front of people and praying aloud – if this isn’t something you’ve tried before we can help you prepare and give it a go!
Reading the Bible
We are looking for at least six people to be part of a roster for both the 9am and 10.30am service times.
You will be reading the Bible for our gatherings. You’ll need to be comfortable getting up in front of people – if this isn’t something you’ve tried before we can help you prepare and give it a go!
Setup / Cleanup of Communion
We are looking for at least six people to be part of a roster for both the 9am and 10.30am service times.
You will be preparing the communion elements before the service in accordance with COVID safety precautions (mask/gloves) and cleaning up the used cups / wiping surfaces at the conclusion of the service.
Music
We have enough musicians at each service at the moment to get by, but only just.
We are especially short of piano players for the 10.30am service, and singers for 9am. If you have gifts in this area which you haven’t told us about and would like to give it a try, please let us know.
Online Welcoming
For the past month, we have had a small team welcoming people on our YouTube livestreams and responding to enquires on Facebook and through the connect@immanuellutheran.org.au email address.
This is an important way to connect with those joining us online who we have not met (there have been a few!) You will need to have Facebook and be comfortable interacting online to serve in this way.
