Australia has only a small number of cases of the novel coronavirus COVID-19. What a blessing this is for us and an answer to prayer! The government has begun easing restrictions on physical gatherings, meaning we have more opportunities to physically meet together as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Gathering Physically
Please be aware that many in our community are in at-risk categories, or will be uncomfortable meeting physically. Over the past two months, so much community and connection has been taking place over the phone and internet. We’ve seen God’s love at work in many unusual ways as we’ve had to find new ways to support and encourage one another. Even though some restrictions are lifting, we want to keep this going especially for those who won’t be meeting physically with others yet.
Given we are now allowed up to ten people in homes in the ACT (five guests in NSW) you may like to gather together with others from Immanuel if you feel comfortable, especially for worship on a Sunday morning. You could meet in someone’s home and participate in the livestream together, as well as having time for fellowship or prayer in person. Some small groups may also consider gathering again physically. We’ve prepared some advice for physical gatherings (download here [PDF – 192KB]) – please read through document this before making arrangements.
Livestream Worship Gathering
Last week the Board of Leadership discussed when we might return to physically worship together. Based on current regulations and the timeline announced by the Prime Minister on 8 May, we are not planning to return to physical worship gatherings in the near future. We are particularly aware that health risks or number restrictions may limit people’s ability to attend worship gatherings. As far as it is in our power we want to gather in a way which can include all.
As the circumstances change and restrictions ease further (which seems likely), the Board of Leadership will continue to consider how we return to public gatherings and keep you informed. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to continue to pray, worship, share community together (in person and through the internet/phone) and keep loving each other and our neighbours, as Christ first loved us.
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
